Be part of the world peace tipping point and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dr. Will Tuttle's groundbreaking book The World Peace Diet by backing our next decade's efforts of self-publishing media: two World Peace Diet companion books--World Peace Diet Cookbook by Culinary Olympic award-winning Chef Mark Stroud and World Peace Yoga book by nationally known yogini, and founder of World Peace Yoga Anna Ferguson.

Our second decade also includes realizing our dream of nationally launching a World Peace Diet Cuisine line of organic, gluten-free, sugar-free vegan food products. How many times has Dr. Will Tuttle been asked after creating this practical tool, The World Peace Diet, “what do I eat on this diet?” And our answer is, “you have read the book, now eat the food."  Anna & Mark share about the project: https://youtu.be/uum7Gvsz1JQ

Join a team of researchers as they unlock the secrets of the humpback and find out why humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales, why they sing their haunting songs, and why these intelligent, 55-foot, 50-ton animals migrate up to 10,000 miles round-trip every year.   Time: 45 minutes

Peveto Woods Bird & Butterfly Sanctuary

Lake Charles region
Cameron Parish, Louisiana 70631

Louisiana lies in the very center of the transcontinental Gulf of Mexico migration path. A greater number of migratory songbirds probably pass over the Cameron Parish coast than anywhere else.

The Baton Rouge Audubon Society has preserved this unique habitat and established the first chenier sanctuary for migratory birds. The first Louisiana settlers called these coastal woods "cheniers" which means oak place. Cheniers are ancient beach ridges formed by wave action, offshore currents, and the influence of the Mississippi River.

**This 41-acre island of chenier woodland is a favorite spot of birders, especially in spring, because as many as 2 million birds utilize these sanctuaries each year. Birders flock here to catch a glimpse of the beautifully plumed spring warblers, tanagers, orioles and the like. Among most sought after are the Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Cerulean Warbler, and Cape May Warbler. Several first Louisiana state records of western vagrants have been obtained here, including Townsend's Warbler, Hepatic Tanager, and Hooded Oriole.

Visitors are provided the opportunity for nature study such as birding, butterfly watching and photography. Website http://www.braudubon.org/peveto-woods-sanctuary.php

Pelican Bark Park
63350 Pelican Dr Mandeville, LA

This has become a meeting place for our adopters and their greyhounds to visit and play off leash.  This informal meeting will be held from 10am until 11am, weather permitting.  On days when we've other events (Meets and Greets, etc), the "regulars" probably won't attend.  For those of you who do go, please be respectful of all the rules - pick up after your pups and don't allow your dog(s) to misbehave - this is a very public venue and all sorts of dog owners will see how we and our dogs behave.  If you have a dog that tends to be pushy or at all aggressive, please take a muzzle!  And while we're out there showing off our well behaved hounds, it would be nice if we all carried a small supply of GPA/LA&MS's brochures.  If you have questions about the park or if you just want to know if "the regulars" will be there, feel free to call Joyce Shugg at 985-373-0434  http://www.houndsabound.org/calendar.php

YELP Dog Adoptions
Yelp House
3205 Lanier Drive.
Baton Rouge, LA 70814

Yelp BR is a project of Commercial Properties Realty Trust, a company with many who adore their dogs. Like Art Fesmire, a troubleshooter of properties who couldn't say no to providing care for a wayward dog until a permanent home could be found. One was; the dog is now part of Art's family. Like Art several CPRT employees have adopted or fostered a YELP rescue.

Upon realizing that so many Baton Rouge dogs needed a home, the staff of Commercial Properties launched Yelp BR to start adoption days in fall 2009. The adoption numbers soared in 2010 and are steadily climbing. YelpBR despartely needs volunteers to keep its footing and to  secure homes for hundreds of dogs.    http://www.yelpbr.com

Spay Neuter Voucher Program & Adoptions

Calcasieu Parish Adoption Center
5500-A Swift Plant Road    Lake Charles, LA 70615
337- 721-3730

Calcasieu Parish Animal Services has developed a spay/neuter program to help people in financial need sterilize their pets. This program helps eliminate unwanted litters that will overpopulate Calcasieu Parish and end up at shelters, where thousands are euthanized each year.

To receive a Spay/Neuter Voucher, a pet owner must pay $10.00 for cats and $20.00 for dogs. As of March of 2009 the program now offers Spay/Neuter Vouchers for families with an income of $35,000 or less. Forms must be filled out at the shelter and the voucher will be issued at that time. The co-pay for this Voucher will be $25.00 for a cat and $40.00 for a dog. These co-pays must be paid to the veterinarian at the time the animal is delivered to the clinic for surgery. A current rabies vaccination and license tag are mandatory.  ADOPTION HOURS:  MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY  12:00 noon - 5:30 pm    http://cppj.animalshelternet.com/adoption_search.cfm
